Nifty Mapworks is the work of Brian Long, a commercial 3D artist and map designer based in Colorado. Each map starts with real USGS elevation data. Terrain, lighting, trails and labels are carefully composed to create a dimensional map that stays flat to the touch.

Brian's background spans CGI and motion design for brands, films and documentaries. The same terrain and rendering process also powers animated maps through Nifty Studio.
